Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN)

Protection of the State of Iowa's critical infrastructure is essential to maintaining a resilient Nation. Because of the vast majority of the sector's assets are privately owned and operated, collaboration and information sharing between the public and private sector is essential to increasing resilience of Iowa's critical infrastructure.

The Homeland Security Information Network - Critical Sectors (HSIN-CS) is a secure, unclassified, web-based Community of Interest (COI) on HSIN that serves as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's primary nationwide information sharing and collaboration system for sharing sensitive but unclassified critical infrastructure information with private sector partners and state and local fusion centers. HSIN-CS supports the Critical Infrastructure Key Resources Information Sharing Environment and enables the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the critical sector stakeholders to communicate, coordinate and share information at no charge to sector stakeholders.

The HSIN for the Iowa Division of Intelligence and Fusion Center (HSIN-IA) is a vetted community of interest within HSIN-CS that is comprised of fusion center members and owners and operators who support state-wide situational awareness, planning, response and recovery activities. It is the primary means by which the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and HSIN-IA shares sensitive but unclassified information with their trusted partners. Through HSIN-CS and HSIN-IA, users have access to:

  • Assessments and alerts on potential criminal and/or terrorist threats to CIKR within Iowa.
  • Best practices for protection and preparedness measures for HSIN-IA members as well as incident response and recovery activities pertinent to the HSIN-IA and the state of Iowa.
  • Critical infrastructure preparedness and resilience analysis and research products.
  • Communication and collaboration with other subject matter experts.
