- Safeguard Iowa Partnership and, the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, the Duane Arnold Energy Center, and the Linn County Emergency Management Agency bring emergency responders and business together into an exercise to create awareness and identify opportunities for collaboration  - 5/10/2011

- SIP Participates in exercise in Linn County - 3/29/2011

SIP in partnership with the EMA and the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce participated in an EOC disaster exercise. During this exercies, the EOC responded to a simulated event with the Duane Arnold Energy Center. These types of exercises are conducted on a regular basis to evaluate the EOC response and in this opportunity it was also helpful to evaluate the interaction with the private secctor to create awareness and identify opportunities for improvement.             

 

 

- Linn County Medical Reserve Corps - 2010

Local response partners are launching a Linn County Medical (and Non-Medical) Reserve Corps (MRC). MRC units are community-based and function as a way to locally organize and utilize volunteers - medical professionals and others - who want to donate their time to prepare for and respond to emergencies. MRC volunteers supplement existing local emergency and public health resources. To learn more view the brochure and press release.

 

- SIP supports the implementation of corporate CERT pilot program in Cedar Rapids - 2010

EMA and a local business in Cedar Rapids conducted CERT training to floor captains to improve businesses emergency response. Employees participating in the CERT training are qualified as well to serve the community in case of a major disaster. 

 

- SIP participates in Exercise with Local Business and First Responders - 2010

During August SIP participated in a public-private exercise simulating an incident involving the activation of the Duane Arnold nuclear plant evacuation protocols. During the exercise Business Continuity Teams from a local Insurance company performed a walkthrough of their plans as the situation changed over a period of 3 days. This exercise included also participants from Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC), Linn County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

 

- Linn County Implements Changes to the Use of the Outdoor Alert Warning (siren) System - 2010

Linn County Emergency Management will sound the outdoor alert warning (siren) for those severe thunderstorms that have a potential of winds greater than 70 miles per hour or golf ball sized hail. To view the press release click here.
